This page is me rather than the work. How I got here, and how I work now. If there is a deal or a market you would like to talk about, start here instead.
How I got here
Most of those years were spent at a desk in the United States, buying and moving fuel across three continents. The hours kept climbing and the time with my family kept shrinking, until it was clear I was meant to be doing something else.
The map traces the road that got me here. Hover or tap any point to read that chapter.
I left a career that ran at eighty hours a week, and now I am working on a better work-life balance. Two clients at a time is the arrangement I chose, and the rest of it belongs to my family and to the other things I am pursuing. That is most of the reason I left the career in the first place, and because I am not trying to fill the week, I have no reason to hold on to a client I am not actually helping.
What has my attention now
Agriculture. How specific crops are grown, priced, and moved across borders, and what makes one hold its value where another does not. Same job, different cargo. If you operate anywhere in that world, I would be glad to compare notes.
Other things that are true
I spent more than 15 years in global commodity and marine fuel markets, negotiating contract value that averaged over $100M a year, most of it from a desk in the United States. I brokered options in New York, moved to the physical side in 2010, developed the fuel supply business across the Caribbean, and supplied marine bunkers along the US Gulf and East Coast and into Canada. From September 2009 to June 2025 that work was at OceanConnect Marine, since merged into KPI OceanConnect, and then at Hartree Marine. Both are named for the record only; neither is affiliated with what I do now. Much of that work came down to closing complex cross-border deals, often with language, jurisdiction, and counterparty risk in play at the same time.
These days I work independently: taking on a small number of clients who need a steady hand across borders, and volunteering on the finance side for Rock Kidz Uganda (a US nonprofit).
Free
Fifteen years chasing "a little more" and I never once named the number. Nobody ever handed me a note saying I had enough now. So I wrote the guide I wish someone had given me, and a calculator that gives you yours in about two minutes. Free, and it always will be.
That is the background. If there is a deal or a market you would like to talk about, here is what I do and what it costs.
